new in – some beautiful fabrics for sewing and quilting projects

Standard

I tend to stock mainly spinning and weaving supplies on the sites listed below my photo on the right hand side panel, and I have recently got in a stock of standard carders, mini carders and carding cloth for you to make your own blending boards (for making up your own blends of colours and fibres).  These you will find on the julzweaving account on ebay, and on julz craft supplies at etsy.

And, just because I fell in love with them – I took a chance and added some really beautiful fabrics to the mix – these you will find on the 85solway ebay account, and again on julz craft supplies at etsy.  I hope you like them – smile!

They are all 100% cotton, the widths are shown below – if you click on any of the images they will become a slide show.  They are all sold in varied amounts, so that you can choose from metres to fat quarters for quilting, and have been chosen as quilting matches.

Apart from the giraffe design which is a cotton canvas, suitable for upholstery, the designs below all come in a medium to light weight cotton, that is great for dressmaking and other sewing projects.

incense – natural tree resins

nuggets of amber resin

nuggets of amber resin

As well as my collection of yarns and fibres for spinners and weavers, and general craft supplies, I have always sold a selection gift items that catch my attention, because they are unusual, useful or look/smell nice!

The natural tree resins come under that category.  They are the purest form of the incense, collected usually directly from the sap of the tree, and as such have very complex organic aromas when burnt.  They can also be combined with each other to produce your own choice of aroma, or to form part of a perfume.

I initially bought the amber resin to burn as an incense, it is used in temples and mosques in burners, and is one of the most expensive resins – especially this one, which is sourced in India.  As it happens, I bulk bought this at the beginning of last year, and then, because of illness, all my stock just languished until I re-started selling in October!

For some reason, and no one has been able to tell me why, the supply from India has dried up, and I seem to be the last person to have some of this!  People are buying it from Morocco at the moment, but its nothing like the Indian sourced tree resin.

Quite by chance, I found that you could just rub the side of one of these nuggets on your wrists or the usual perfume points and the perfume stayed with you all day – it has always been used as an ingredient for perfumes anyway!  Even in its solid form, you can put it in a muslim bag, and hang it up in the room or wardrobe, and the complex fruity/musky scent will just colour the area nearby – and the nuggets seem to last forever.

I’m on my last pack of these just now, and if I can’t find more of it, I’m not sure if I’ll bother to buy the Moroccan resin, because I have been spoilt!  It has also been very popular with my customers – but I don’t get many repeat orders, because it lasts so long!  You can see my listings, which give even more information about the resin and how to use it – here on ebay, and here on etsy.  A nugget is £4.95 – the etsy listing includes a small organza bag that can be hung in wardrobes etc.

I will come back to these another day, but if you want to sample some of the best of them, I have put together a set with a burner – that you can find here on ebay, and here on etsy.  The listings explain how to burn them safely!

so no – I can’t tell you what was wrong cos it wasn’t really explained to me, but it seems that the spam collector ‘askimet’ had identified me as spam, and was stashing away all my comments in his little home, the spam folder, of all the blogs I have commented on – for maybe three weeks????

Anyway, I managed to get a comment up on the Community Pool today, so it must be OK!  If you don’t know what I’m talking about, and you’re a WordPress user, then its a site hosted by the Daily Post, for people to ask for help with the content of their blogs – usually to get someone to read them, who would never see them otherwise!

My comment is on page 8 of the current “Pool”, if you want to respond to it – smile.

are my/your comments stuck in spam?

Standard

ask for helpI have discovered in the last day or two that almost all the comments I have made on other people’s blogs have been stuck in the spam folder, and thus not viewed or put up on the sites I commented upon.

WordPress support have not been very helpful so far, so I am putting out a call to anyone and everyone who has a WordPress site to check your spam folder.  Yes, there is a lot of rubbish in there that deserves to never see the light of day – but please look and see if any of my comments are also stuck there – or your friends comments – due for imminent disposal!

I have checked with some of the sites I follow and who also took the blogging101 course with me, and they have found up to 5 of my comments in their spam folder – I really hope that hasn’t happened to you!  I have also commented on random posts I found through searches, or in the Community Pool, and since no one can read them, I can’t get any replies from anyone, when I ask them if my comments are in the spam folder – catch 22!

However – if you do want to leave a comment on this post – as far as I know, they will all arrive, and I will put them up as soon as I get them!

And check in my spam folder just in case – smile!  My comments are all moderated by me, but that’s because the comments are open to anyone reading my blog – so do let me know if you can shed some light on this strange phenomenon!
