Courtesy of Sheila Dixon’s Hand Spinning News for this month, I thought I’d pass on these FREE patterns she found!
This one is to knit your own Christmas Stocking. Of course the pattern is free because you are supposed to buy the exact wool from the German (I think) company that is giving away the pattern, but, as the final size is not all that important, I think you could easily use any 2 ply wool combinations, especially if you have spun them yourself. The pattern on the socks is apparently Latvian. You can find the pattern HERE. You have to fill in a form to get it, but it is FREE!
The second free pattern is for making this rather interesting leaf garland. If you crochet you will find it very easy – if you don’t, its worth having a look because there are very full instructions on how to make each piece, and you could probably make it yourself anyway!
You can find the instructions on Lucy’s blog here, and the overview and background info HERE. If you do make it, let her know, I’m sure she’d love to see your version!
My previous post
has had no reaction! No one has asked me about the payment scheme, thro a paypal button on the actual blog post, nor have any of the team working on it got in touch with me to help out/answer my questions……
I suppose I was a bit too ambitious – I should have started with an item of small value of which I have plenty, and which is so light that it can be posted for about the same cost to anyone anywhere!
Am having a think about that! Any suggestions?
In the meantime, the lantern remains unsold, and if you are in the UK and would like to buy it – you can still try out the paypal button. I will refund you if there are any problems with the system.
In the meantime, I have put up listings for two different lanterns – I only bought one of each
on etsy – click here to see it
and on ebay – click here to see it
I also have a couple that I haven’t listed yet – smile
Ever since WordPress announced that they had added a Payment Button to allow people to buy direct from a blog post, or allow Charities to take donations on a fixed page – I have been intending to try this idea out. Having tested it in a draft page, it seems that they have a long way to go to make it a totally useful service.
Has anyone had any experience with using it? I’ve tried contacting the team that were working on this project, but I haven’t had much luck in finding them. It probably works within very specific parameters, but I would like to find a way of selling some of my craft supplies directly, to any of my readers, whatever country they come from.
And there lies the problem – there is no facility for listing different postage rates for various countries.
SO – This listing will show the price, inclusive of postage, for UK readers only. You will need a Paypal Account to buy, as when you click on the payment button, it will take you straight thro to Paypal – altho you may of course use any credit or debit card.
UPDATE – 8 DECEMBER
I HAVE THE PAYPAL BUTTON OFF – TO AVOID CONFUSION – THE LANTERN IS NOW AVAILABLE AT MY ETSY SHOP.
I only have one of these for sale, so as soon as someone decides to take the plunge – I will try and make sure that the system doesn’t stay active!
I do have various other versions of these Lanterns, and some lovely gift items I’ve just got in, and will see how this works before I try selling any more items here – but you can find most of my stock for sale at my shop – julzcraftsupplies on etsy.
You may remember that I said that some of my stock was in storage after the landslip.
I finally managed to do a day trip to Ystalyfera to check the house last week – I’m not allowed to stay overnight – health & safety – and for once I agree with this measure!
I also managed to collect my stock. Thanks to everyone who gave me a hand, my local councillor included, who is keeping an eye on the house for me, Gabe, Lara & John, and Bruce who provided cups of tea – smile – and especially my cousin whose help was above and beyond!
It was still very tiring tho’ – I could hardly walk the next day – and I have just about surfaced with enough energy to list the fabrics on etsy! More stuff to come, but this is just a quick post to show you what is now available!

blue cotton with christmas stockings
green cotton with santa bears
white cotton with gold swirls
red cotton with gold xmas trees
green cotton with white reindeer motif
white cotton with gold swirls & stars

I also have a few more, that somehow didn’t end up in this collage. As you can see not all of them are specifically festive – prices vary – all are 100% cotton.
For the moment I am listing more stock on etsy than ebay simply because I was able to retrieve the information on my old listings, and could just renew them! I appreciate that a large proportion of my customers usually use ebay, but at the moment, it would cost too much to list nearly 100 items there too, as I have had quite a long break from online selling.
However, if you don’t want to register with etsy, you can still have a look at the listings there – and are welcome to buy direct – all transactions go thro’ paypal, which will give you the same protection.
