About posting information about the BBC petition – some reactions I got!

Standard

whoops! As well as putting up information about the petition to “Save the BBC” – see my previous post – I also included the link to it in my latest newz from julz mailing to my customers.

I got some very odd reactions!  Whilst several of them replied to say they had either already added their names to the petition, and had done so as a result of seeing my post, I also got a long email from a customer, who was very upset that I had included mention of it in my mailing.

She wrote “Please remove me from your email list as you are using my personal data for a purpose other than in relation to our existing retail relationship i.e. to gather support for a non-retail related petition.

Whilst I appreciate your right to express your opinion, using my personal data to drum up support is, I think, in contravention of legislation designed to protect individuals’ privacy and to prevent unsolicited communication.  I agreed, by entering into our commercial relationship, to receive communication regarding your goods and services, not with regard to your personal or political views and beliefs.

With respect to our retail relationship you can, of course, choose not accept  my custom in the future.

I would be grateful if you could also ensure that you do not pass on my details to anyone else. If I have not explicitly stated this in the past, I am now updating my consent with regard to my personal information.”

I am obviously not naming her, I would never do that, but this is a genuine email, and I do feel that she deserves a reply.  I did write back, but have received no answer, and I expect that she has put my email address on  her junk list, so, in order to clear up a few misapprehensions that she and others may have, I am also publishing my reply.

“If you had looked at my blog, you would have seen that it is a general crafts blog AND my personal blog and as such I reserve the right to say what I like – smile.

Its very unusual for me to use it to promote something like this petition – I have used it once or twice for other specific issues that affect craftspeople, or myself personally – have a look at the ‘how ridiculous’ section if you can be bothered.

You obviously didn’t read the post – you might have seen the relevance, and anyone who lives in Britain must be aware of the fuss about the BBC at the moment.  There was no pressure to sign the petition, however, I have a lot of people from all over the world on my mailing list and they wouldn’t know about this, so I used the mailing list for that reason, and to update customers about the fact that I will not be closing my etsy shop/ebay listings over the summer and to inform them of my new email address too – smile.

The newz from julz mailings are normally about what new stock is in or special offers, and as such, it won’t matter if you don;t get them – its just a service for customers.

You obviously feel strongly about these issues – I missed a bit out on the bottom line this time – by accident – it is my solemn promise that I DO NOT SHARE MY MAILING LIST, NOR WILL I EVER USE ONE OF THE PAYING SERVICES, who then use the list for other purposes – because I feel exactly the way you do!”

I have no idea whether she is right about the ‘legal aspect’ that she mentions in the second  paragraph – does anyone know anything about this?  However, whilst she was the only one who wrote at such length, there was a spate of ‘REMOVES’ in my replies to this mailing!  So maybe others also object to my telling them about the petition?  I can’t help that, customers have a right to ask to be removed from the mailing list any time for any reason, and I always comply.  But I am surprised that I should get such a strong reaction.
 ?
What do you think about my inclusion of other issues in this blog or my newz from julz emails?
It would be interesting to know!
 ?
By the way, if you want to join the mailing list, you don’t have to buy anything, please see the form at the bottom of the SHOP TALK page.
 ?
And a big thank you to Roni in the USA who has taken up my theme about independent broadcasting and related it to the only independent network in the USA, which has to rely on open donations (PBS), on her blog “long live the BBC!”
?
(just to let you know that the spacing of this last section keeps moving, so I have had to add the “?” symbol just to separate the paragraphs!)

Lets create a Gallery of Your Work! Please Contribute …..

a scarf what I wove!

a scarf what I wove!

Just a quick note to say that quite a lot of things got sidelined whilst I was doing the A-Z challenge – it was very distracting to write & research a daily post during April!

However, some of the posts I put together were quite useful, and I am going to spend a bit of time tidying up this blog, and will add the information entries to the Information Sheet – i/sheet – Archive.

I would also like to be able to use this blog to host some of my readers work!  If you look at the Show & Tell Archive – which I will also be tidying up! – you will see that I am always happy to showcase your work.  A full ‘article’ about their work has been promised from various craftspeople, but it involves quite a bit of work, so they are slow to come in.

In the meantime, lets create a more general gallery during May.

I have just sent out an invitation to all the customers on my mailing list, to contribute to a Gallery of Your Work, and am also extending the invitation to anyone who happens across this post – smile – and of course to my loyal followers.

how to enter

A lot of us work at home and never get to share our work – but its great to be able to see  what others are doing and sharing a picture of your work here, may inspire others, or give you ideas for new projects – so please contribute to this gallery – whether you are a professional, amateur, or you are just starting up – its always great to see what people are making!

All I need from you is a good photograph of work you have done, any time, that you would like to share.  Just one from each contributor.  If you don’t have my email address, please use the “contact me page” and I will send you an email you can attach your contribution to.

Please add your name, a short description of the work, your blog or website address, if you have one – which will be published, so that others can get in touch with you if they like your work.  Please also add your email address – which will not be published – so that I can pass on any other enquiries to you.

This is a craft orientated blog, any craft work in any discipline is welcome, as are other media – not videos tho, cos they take up too much room!

The gallery will be be open to contributions during the whole month of May.

I will start putting them up as soon as I have enough contributions to start a new post, and will add to it, as they come in.  The link to the Gallery will be on the Show & Tell Archive, so that you can find it anytime, and as that Archive is a permanent page – your work will be available for others to see for the duration of julzcrafts.com – which will, hopefully, be for many years to come!

Look forward to seeing some interesting stuff!

decorated fantasia spinning wheel

I just got an ‘annual report’ from wordpress on this site, and the most visited pages are the SHOW & TELL FEATURES – especially the one on decorating KROMSKI’S FANTASIA SPINNING WHEEL. Click here to see it.

I love the idea that something posted over a year ago is still getting visitors and inspiring others.  There are several other SHOW & TELL posts – to access them, please see my new SHOW & TELL ARCHIVE PAGE.

I have constantly asked my customers to contribute to this feature, but somehow they are either too shy, or too busy,or feel its too much work!  Please don’t  let that put you off!  I will publish all contributions, whether you are just starting up or a professional – tho’ I reserve the right to edit your contribution slightly – and will give you a chance to publicise your work and for others to contact you if you want them to.

There is no time limit on this – just send me something any time you feel like to julz@julzweaving.plus.com, OR fill in the form on the CONTACT ME PAGE Please include as many pictures as you want, with some brief paragraphs about yourself and your work. Whist this opportunity is specifically for my customers, past or present – and future – I would also be interested to hear from people who just have something they’d like to share, and if its relevant in any way, I will put your contribution up too.

If you’d like to look at my current stock, please see the right hand column, underneath my photo, where the personal links list all the sites I sell on –  clicking on these links will give you a chance to browse. I am also aware that you may not currently be registered with any or all of these sites, and to make it easy for you to order at any time, and especially when you want to order various items spread across the sites, you are welcome to put in an order direct.  Please have a look at the BUYING DIRECT PAGE at the top of this blog.

HAPPY NEW YEAR – Hope to hear from you soon!

All my xmas & general photographic greetings cards are now available to anyone -please see last post

Standard

My Flash Sale has now ended, and I will be posting out the orders today – thank you to everyone who participated.

FireHaving got all the boxes down and set up an area where I can put orders together, I thought I might as well keep these on sale – HOWEVER – AS WELL AS ORDERING THE SETS AS SHOWN, YOU CAN ALSO CHOOSE WHICH CARDS YOU WANT FROM EITHER GRID, AND THE QUANTITY YOU WANT.  (Grids are on the previous post)

All cards will be 30p each, when bought direct from me only.  Please email me at julz@julzweaving.plus.com with your order – I haven’t named the cards here (you can see some of the names in the tag list below)  but its probably easier to just give me the positions in each grid – No 1 Grid is the Christmas Card set – No 2 Grid is the General Card Set.  ie: No 1 grid, line 1, card no 3/  No 2 grid line 3, card no 1 – if that makes sense to you!

I will email you back with the total cost, including postage to your country, and if you accept this, I will put together a paypal invoice for you.  Cards will be sent out as soon as possible after you have paid.  (Should anything go wrong your payment will have all the protection of the paypal system.)

Just for info, I have put together the set of 2 fireside greetings cards and the original 8″ x 6″ postcard on etsy – you can see it here

Please feel free to share this post, as this offer is now open to anyone who sees it, now that club members have had first dibs – smile!

(I will let you know when you order if any of the cards become out of stock, or unreachable – smile – reference to my excavations – see last 2 posts)

I loo forward to hearing from you

The cards I found after my excavations – see previous post!

set of 4 xmas cards

After more excavations in the stock room, I had to give up, because it would have entailed pulling out so much stuff to get to the other boxes, that I just didn’t have the energy!  However, I did find a box of mixed cards that I used to take with me to craft fairs etc – so this is the set I chose to sell as Xmas Cards.

They are not obvious Xmas cards, but I used to use them to send out to people at xmas, and people really liked an alternative to the usual Merry Christmas emblazoned type cards, and, besides which they often framed them afterwards – smile.

My best seller was the log fire card – bottom right, and as I don’t have quite as many of those as I do the others, I thought I’d offer them as a set, but not promise 5 of each card.

You may notice that ‘fireside’ is similar to the red teapot card – that’s because they are two crops taken from one large format negative – they were taken old style, on film.  I took a whole roll of the still life set up I created around my living room fireplace – and for some reason, on some of them, the film slipped slightly, and I got double exposures – which I liked better than the original sharp photograph – so I chose that one to print!

I originally printed the whole image as an 8 x 6″ postcard – which is also still available – and only later, when I was choosing images to print as greetings cards did it occur to me to split the image.

I am selling the 4 cards above as a set of 20 for £6 – that’s 30p a card, and is definately less than it cost me to produce them!

While I was at it, I decided to offer a set of 10 randomly selected cards from the rest of the range for £3 – also 30p each. These are some of the cards available in that set – the only reason I haven’t included all of them is that I couldn’t find a grid template big enuf to take the rest of them! 9 of my other cards

All the cards are 5″ square, blank inside and printed on really good card, with nice, good quality coloured envelopes.

The reason I have put them up here is that the cards do not show up large enough in the email I sent out to my customers on Saturday, so I thought I’d direct them here so they could see them properly.

However, having done so – if anyone else would like to buy any – please get in touch  – julz@julzweaving.plus.com

You can pay with paypal, which makes things easier.

“Enuf Already” of the sales pitch!  I would be interested in any comments, positive OR negative about the cards – feedback is always useful.
